By the Sea, By the Sea, By the Beautiful Sea with Murphy

After saying goodbye to Buttons, Lily and the ducks we left Longwell Green for a long weekend in Axmouth with Murphy, a handsome black Lab. Since we had some time before our arrival, we visited Lyme Regis. Lyme Regis is a favorite holdiay destination in West Dorset. It is called the Pearl of Dorset. Lyme Regis is known for the fossils found on the beaches and cliffs called the Jurassic Coast. It is a really lovely seaside town. We visited there on a Friday afternoon during a bank holiday weekend and it was crowded. We found a little outdoor sandwich shop where Chuck bought me an egg mayonnaise sandwich (egg mayonnaise is the UK version on egg salad). It was delicious. 😁 We ambled along the boardwalk and watched the sunbathers and swimmers on the rocky beach. Along the beach were brightly colored bathing houses. We stopped to talk to a gentleman who told us that some were for rent while others were owned by private citizens. Of course, we had to visit the shops and flea markets. We found several prints and paintings for our collection. I suppose I should mention that we will dedicate a wall in our house for all the travel treasure art. It looks like we're going to need a really big wall!

After spending the afternoon in Lyme Regis, we drove to Axmouth to meet Murphy.

After Murphy's humans left on their holiday, we made sure Murphy was settled for a bit, then drove to Seaton.  Seaton is another seaside town much like Lyme Regis, but slower paced. We decided that we liked Seaton more than Lyme Regis. There is an area called the Esplanade along the beach where we could walk. The city centre is also very pedestrian friendly.  We had a chance to explore before we had a fish and chips dinner at the Fryday, the local fish and chips shop.

Saturday morning, we took Murphy for a walk in a very tranquil forest.  The forestry commission is logging in that area so there are some very muddy areas. Murphy is a very well trained and a perfect gentleman. He comes when called and can be walked off lead.

We spent the afternoon walking around Seaton finding the local charity shops. We found some real treasures. During our exploration of Seaton, we were delighted to find that there would be a classic car show the next day.

Sunday dawned warm and sunny.  The classic car show was on the calendar today. Jaguars were the featured classics but lots of others were there also. Great day!

We also a great seafood dinner at one of the outdoor restaurants along the Esplanade then did some more walking through the city centre, then back to Murphy.

We got to see a couple of pheasants along the little lane next to New Chapter in Axmouth where we stayed.

One evening we walked to the Axe River then stopped at one of the local pubs for drinks. Murphy gets lots of attention because he is so majestic.  We had a great time talking with the locals.

We had such a good time with Murphy, however, we have a stay in Littledean with poodles, a Chinese Crested dog, cats, and chickens. We're on our way, but first, a stop in Cheddar!
