Leaving Liverpool, Hadrian's Wall and Happy 4th of July from Scotland!

Liverpool is such a great city to visit and I'm sure that we could have stayed another day or two and done more exploring but we are on our way to Scotland to stay with 6 Cavalier Spaniels.  On the way to Strathaven, Scotland we took a little detour to see the remnants of Hadrian's Wall.  It was amazing to view the remains of a stone wall built thousands of years ago to the specifications of Hadrian.  He decreed that every mile there had to be a gate even if the gate would open onto a gorge or into a hill.  Parts of the wall have long been dismantled to build other structures, but it is still impressive.

After seeing Hadrian's Wall we drove to our next house/pet sit.  Nancy lives near Strathaven with 6 of the cutest Cavalier Spaniels:  Jinty, Geordie, Robbie, Charlie, Fergus and Maisie. Nancy told us that Cavalier Spaniels were bred to be lap dogs for carriage riders in days of old. These sweeties really love to be cuddled!
Yesterday Chuck and I decided to explore Glasgow which is only a short drive away.  We left Frankie, our dependable mode of transportation, in a carpark and took a bus to George Square.  A very lovely gentleman helped us get on the correct bus and even walked us part of the way to George Square where we would find the Hop On/Hop Off City Tours.  We had some time before the tour began so we decided to have breakfast at Wetherfords.  It was pretty good but totally different from Waffle House.
After our delicious breakfast we boarded the bus and began the tour of Glasgow. Much like Liverpool, we didn't know what to expect but were delightfully surprised.  Again there are many beautiful buildings in the Victorian and Georgian styles of architecture.  There is a huge pedestrian walking and shopping area with lots of restaurants and street performers.  Chuck and I are planning to return to Glasgow to visit the Riverside Museum as well as to do a bit more looking and shopping.

Happy Independence Day! Our day here in Scotland has been very quiet.  It's raining and chilly. We've been drinking coffee and watching the Tour de France. The dogs joined us for head and belly rubs (they got the head and belly rubs, not Chuck and me).

Nancy was so gracious and asked us to spend a couple of days with her and the dogs before she left on holiday.  She prepared a delicious meal of vegetable soup, lamb stew and bread for our evening meal the day we arrived.  The next day she chauffeured us around so that we could see Strathaven (pronounced Strayven) and the surrounding area.  Sheep are huge part of the economy in this area. This is our view from our room.  Beautiful, isn't it?

We've got a lot more exploring to do while we're here!
